Caitlin and Maddy

This month we chat to Maddy @hutchinsonhouse &
Caitlin @thehouseonbeachroad both talented local interior stylists
and Sea Maiden / Villa Lane regulars.

What do you most love most about living in Redhead and our store?

I love living in such a creative and supportive community. For a small beach side town, Redhead is bursting with talent, which I feel fortunate to work amongst.

There are lots of different spaces within Villa Lane’s store, each with a different story to tell. If you love interiors then this store is a must-visit… just don’t expect to walk away empty-handed.

How did your interest in renovating and becoming home stylists begin?  What inspires your journey?

Growing up in England before travelling the world in my twenties and finally settling in Australia, I often refer to my style as globally influenced.  I'm inspired by many of the countries that I've visited, in particular my work trips to the Caribbean islands, which gave me a huge appreciation of tropical living and the British West Indian aesthetic. Add to this European architecture, art and interiors and you’ll see where I get my love of classic, timeless design.

I’m passionate about mixing authentic pieces in my designs, items which represent a story and bring culture and interest to a space. The textiles I use for design work and in my home often reflect this aesthetic, for example, I adore using French flax linen hand-selected from Parisian markets, paired with African mud cloth found in the souks of Marrakech.

Hutchinson House is a visual journey of my passion for interiors, creating spaces to love and sharing the many renovation projects that my husband and I tackle as we make our house a home.

My style is coastal classic, and I love creating light and bright spaces with a neutral colour palette which adds warmth with beautiful timbers and textiles. My home is an eclectic mix of beautiful new home wares combined with amazing thrifted finds.

I always seem to have a project on the go and love watching the house constantly evolve. I believe that home should be a reflection of who you are and a place where family can enjoy. Nothing is too precious in our home and I hope that as my children grow, it can be a place where they want to spend time.

Renovating my forever home, while working as an interior stylist to clients and brands across Australia has taken years, but bit by bit we've turned the ramshackle house we'd bought into a home.
